From the 3rd to 5th of September the TWI is offering a wide range of conferences with various speakers renowned for their expertise.
The congresses will take place daily during this period from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the conference rooms Switzerland and Austria.

Wednesday, September 3rd
Current status of research, development and practical management of EMS, IR and obesity as well as stomach disorders in horses
Speaker: Constanze (Conny) Röhm
Conny is a trained equine scientist and one of the most renowned experts in equine nutrition and training physiology, as well as in business management issues in the equine sector. She talks about the scientific basis and diagnostics of obesity, EMS and IR, and how BCS and CNS are applied in practice. She also provides an overview of current research on metabolic disorders, genetic predispositions and the influence of feeding and exercise management.
This training course not only teaches you the theoretical basics, but also provides you with practical tools for recognising and effectively treating metabolic disorders such as obesity, EMS and IR in horses. You will become confident in using BCS and CNS and will be able to competently advise patient owners on prevention and therapy.
In the second session, she explains stomach disorder that affect horses and the appropriate treatment and management. In the course, Conny explains the anatomy and physiology of the horse's stomach, what diseases and disorders can occur in the horse's stomach, the current state of research and practical application and what preventive measures can be taken.
This training provides you with the necessary knowledge to reliably recognise early signs of stomach disorders and to understand the most important treatment options and their limitations. You will learn how to develop a preventive management plan for your herd, how to optimally adapt feeding and husbandry to stomach health and how to work competently with your veterinarian.

Feeding broodmares, foals and young horses, right through to performance feeding: focus on Western breeds
Speaker: Ronja Hagedorn (DQHA) and Conny Röhm
Ronja Hagedorn is the breeding manager of the German Quarter Horse Association and has a background in animal science. As a passionate breeder and long-time owner of American Quarter Horses, she combines in-depth expertise with practical experience. She is particularly interested in communicating the latest scientific findings in horse breeding in a way that is tailored to the target audience.
In this three-hour training course, you will gain in-depth knowledge about the specific requirements for feeding horses in different stages of life and areas of use – from broodmares to foals, weanlings and yearlings to young horses in performance feeding. The focus is on the special needs of Western breeds. The training course combines the latest research with practical approaches and highlights both proven methods and common mistakes to avoid.
The first session focuses on modern breeding strategies for Quarter Horse breeding. Ronja gives a comprehensive presentation on breeding goals between vision and reality, genetic diversity and strategic mating planning, hereditary diseases, breeding and evaluation systems, regulations and association structures, modern reproduction techniques and future strategies with possible solutions.
In the second session, Conny will give a comprehensive presentation on the nutritional physiology of broodmares, foals/weaners and yearlings, performance feeding for Western breeds and the current state of research.

Climate change and its impact on horse husbandry, feeding and forage cultivation
Speaker: Simone Meyer and Conny Röhm
For over 25 years, Simone Meyer has been passionately dedicated to holistic horse husbandry and feeding. Her extensive experience ranges from organic farming, pasture management and feed cultivation to species-appropriate horse nutrition. She conveys well-founded knowledge and demonstrates horse-friendly, natural feeding methods – always product-independent and scientifically sound. With the aim of creating a new awareness of responsibility towards horses, she encourages horse owners to actively and competently participate in shaping their animals' nutrition.
The training is aimed at boarding stable operators, horse breeders, farmers, veterinarians and therapists who want to actively shape the future of their businesses and their horses. Simone Meyer gives comprehensive lectures on the topics of hay analysis and the connection between climate and changes in feed. She reports on practical experience in feed cultivation, experiences from other countries and sustainable horse feeding.
