ERCHA Reined Cow Horse Action on Day 2 of AMERICANA
The second day of AMERICANA 2025 was partly dominated by Reined Cowhorse. The go rounds in Reined Work for the ERCHA Derby Open and Non Pro were held, followed by Herd Work in the ERCHA Open and Non Pro Bridle Spectacular. The results in the Open also counted towards the Nations Cup standings.
Giovanni Campanaro & Over The Topish S8 take the lead in the Open Go Round
In the Open Go Round for 5- and 6-year-old horses, which featured a strong field of 17 starters, Giovanni Campanaro (ITA) took the lead with Over The Topish S8 (Dual Reyish x Look One), owned by Francesco Baiocco. Campanaro and the the 5-year-old stallion bred by Gary Miller, impressed among other things with their excellent work on the circles and stops. The judges awarded a score of 219 for the ride by the pair, who already won the Metallic Cat Derby Open this year. Giovanni Campanaro also achieved the second-best score in this field with Rey Smart Tuff (Bet Command Rey x CR Lenas Top Tuff), owned by Carlo Mulatero: 218.5. With the 4-year-old mare, he was Reserve Champion at the Metallic Cat Derby Open.
Third in the go-round was Markus Schöpfer (ITA) with Oh Cay Eastercat, owned by Sandro Peretto (217.5).
Limited Open Go Round Leader: Markus Schöpfer & Oh Cay Eastercat
This also meant that Markus Schöpfer took the lead in the Limited Open. Riding the 5-year-old stallion by Oh Cay Mc out of Snapper Victoria, bred by Sandro Peretto and Markus Schöpfer, Markus had already been Ercha/Nrcha Derby Open Reserve Champion and Limited Open Champion in 2024. Markus also rode Ohcay Jokin Chic to third place with a score of 212 for Petro Pennacchio.
In second place with a score of 213 was Samuele Poli Barberis (ITA) with Thaz A Candy Gun, owned by Eleonora Terzi.
Level 1 Open go round Leader: Johanna Raab & Ruffly Spookin Off
Johanna Raab dominated the go-round in Level 1 with Rufffly Spookin Off (Smart Spook X Ruffly Whizin Off), who came out of the reined work with a score of 215. Tomas Barta followed in second place on GR Miss Corona Dual, owned by Adam Szewczyk (210), followed by Stefanie Steidle with Anne Hiller's SER Metallic Rose (208).
Elena Ferrari takes lead in Derby Non Pro & L1 Non Pro
In the Reined Work of the ERCHA Derby Non Pro and Level 1 Non Pro Go rounds, Elena Ferrari (ITA) took the lead with her 5-year-old Spiderman Of Time (Woody Time x Spiderman By Night) scoring a 214.5. The 20-year-old Italian had already won the Metallic Cat Derby Non Pro and Level 1 Non Pro 2025 with her gelding.
Jan Luca Waitzenegger followed in second place in the Go rounds Non Pro and Level 1 with Elta Buccaneer (210.5). Third in the Non Pro was Eliane Seiler (SUI) on Cromed Magnum (210), and in the Level 1, Elenoroa Terzi on Thaz A Candy Gun (204.5).
Go round Leader ERCHA Derby Non Pro Boxing 4+5+6y: Frank Kunkel & DG Pepy Rey
The Reined Work in the ERCHA Derby Non Pro Boxing 4+5+6y Go round went to Frank Kunkel on DG Pep Rey (209). Second place went to Niggi Vlach (SUI) on Chex your Fancy Guns (203.5) ahead of René Driever and Olena Shines (202).
ERCHA Open Bridle Spectacular – Herd Work:
Samuele Polis Barberis & Cats Got Freckles dominate Open, Vera Walliser & CD Fortunate Son the Ltd. Open
The first part of the competition, herd work, took place in the ERCHA Open and Ltd. Open Bridle Spectacular. Samuele Polis Barberis achieved the top score of 219 with Cats Got Freckles (WR This Cats Smart x Playboys Girl) for owner Luca Terzi. Markus Schöpfer and Metallics Journey, owned by Magnus Gustafsson, took second place with a score of 217, followed by Giovanni Campanaro and Trix Aristocrat Mr, owned by Matese Ranch (217).
Barberis has already achieved many successes with the 15-year-old stallion Cats Got Freckles. Among other things, the pair contributed to the Italian team's victory at the 2023 AMERICANA Nations Cup, where they also won individual silver. The stallion was also ERCHA Futurity Open and Non Pro Champion and ERCHA DERBY Non Pro Champion.
Vera Walliser (SUI) dominated the Herd Work in the Limited Open on her 9-year-old CD Fortunate Son (Metallic Cat x CDS Lucky Gal). The pair, who have already enjoyed many successes (including ERCHA/NRCHA Limited Non Pro Bridle Champion 2022), scored 216. Stefanie Steidle and Metallic Rooster Dr came second with 214.5, followed by Nina Henny on Tivios Prize (208).
Italy takes lead in ERCHA Nations Cup after Herd Work
This also determines the first interim standings in the ERCHA Nations Cup: after the Herd Work, ERCHA Nations Cup Champion 2023 Italy have taken the lead with a total of 663 points, ahead of the teams from Switzerland (640), Germany (635.5) and France (634.5).
Sarah Destefanis dominates ERCHA Non Pro Bridle Spectacular after Herd Work
Sarah Destefanis (ITA) and her Hot As Wasabi (Little Dulces Rey x Whirlacat) dominated the herd work at the ERCHA Non Pro Bridle Spectacular. The judges awarded them a score of 219 for their outstanding performance. Among other things, Sarah and her 11-year-old mare were Non Pro Bridle Champions at the ERCHA/NRCHA Beet Hesa Boon Pre-Futurity 2025. Adela Molcanova (SVK) came second with a score of 215 on Nu Peptoslady. Three riders tied for third place (each with a score of 212): Christian Conrad on One Smart Sultan, Sabine Brasche on Bet Hesa Wildcat and Vera Walliser (SUI) on CD Fortunate Son.
