Bernard Fonck & What A Wave claim World Cup Open Trophy

09. Sep 2017

This final of the $ 50,000-added AMERICANA  World Cup Open Bronze Trophy will stay in everybody’s mind for a long time as it was one of the most exciting AMERICANA ever had. 12 World class horses and riders had made it to the final. Ann Fonck, who had three horses in the final was the first to go aboard the 6-year-old stallion Made In Walla (Walla Walla Whiz x Hollywood Made, owned by Sabine Lisec and Chuck Klipfel). Her close to perfect speed control, fast spins and long slides were rewarded with a 229.5 by the judges and lound cheers from the almost 5,000 visitors.

Grischa Ludwig and Nu Chexomatic (Nu Chex To Cash x Tejons Texie Lena) topped this performance. The 10-year-old palomino gelding owned by Jacpoint QH won the AMERICANA Open trophy in 2015 with Cody Sapergia in the saddle who also rode him to the NRHA World Champion-ship Open. Grischa had only a few chances to ride the horse before AMERICANA, but the two had a great run in the final posting a 230 with the excellent turnarounds Nu Chexomatic is famous for as well as fine stops.

Everybody held his breath when NRHA World Champion Open What A Wave (Tidal Wave Jack x What a Sunrise, owner Steve & Gina Van-nietvelt) and NRHA Million Dollar Rider Bernard Fonck entered the arena. Bernard and his stallion had had the second best score of the go round. And then the big show arena exploded with cheers when the two present-ed a brilliant performance in every manoeuvre. What a Wave melted into his last stop, backed up fluently – and left the arena with a 231! This was the AMERICANA World Cup Open Bronze Trophy Championship with Grischa Ludwig and Nu Chexomatic placing second and Ann Fonck and Made in Walla placing third.

„I am very happy,“ said Bernard after his run. „I knew I had to go to the max, and we made  it. What A Wave is on a good way to his third World Champion Open title now, and I think he should be my horse for the 2018 World Equestrian Games…”

„Today, everything worked out fine,“ said Grischa Ludwig happily. „Nu Chexomatic is a powerful horse with lots of talent and a great mind – simply a great reiner. I had sold the horse to Jacpoint QH and always wanted to show him once. AMERICANA was the perfect stage for this. It was a lot of fun.“

Ann Fonck also rode Spook N Perla to fourth place for owner Goldenpaint Ranch posting a 228 as well as Gunnerlicious to seventh place for owner Steve & Gina Vannietvelt with a score of 222. Cira Baeck who had had the best run of the go round with two horses placed fifth aboard Gunners Snappy Chic for owner Piet Mestdagh (225.5) and eighth aboard KR When in Rome for owner Katarzyna Roleska (220.5). Bernard Fonck also had another horse in the final: Smart N Sparkin whom he rode to sixth place honours for owner Goldenpaint Ranch scoring a 224.5. Gennaro Lendi and Dont Miss My Guns (owner David Roux) placed eighth (220.5), Rudi Kronsteiner and Jennifer Nixdorf’s AB Peppy Diamond placed tenth (220) with Markus Gebert aboard Wimpy Crashed Ice (owner Simon Bilger) following on eleventh place (219) and Egon Gerstgrasser and Cashworthy (owner Deanna Kasper) on 12th place (217).
